It's Bad to be Blind. . . .

We had breakfast with Paul and the girls this morning. It was really nice. Near the end of the meal my phone alerted me of a text. Helena jumped up and ran to the kitchen to get my phone for me. I told her it was ok, I didn't have my glasses and probably couldn't read it anyway. But she insisted and also offered to run upstairs to get me a pair of glasses. I told her it was okay, I'd get it later, but she was already on her way out of the room. She returned with a retro-looking pair of glasses, handed them to me, whispered something in Rease's ear and stood quietly while I tried to read my text. Having the glasses wasn't any better. I couldn't read the text and one of the lenses was badly smudged. I told the girls (as they were smiling at me) that they were probably just plastic lenses and one was smudged at that. Then the giggles began as Helena took the glasses and poked her finger where a lens should be. I was not only wearing plastic lensed glasses, but one of the lenses was missing and I couldn't even tell! ! ! ! Everybody got a kick out of it. What a clever little fox she was. That stinker!

It's bad when you start to go blind. Really, really, bad.

For Carrie

Carrie,
It's hard to find the words sometimes, so I let the Lord lead my heart.
I love you and Dan very much. Stay strong, lean on Him and He will guide you through.
Love,
Aunt Crickett

"Her Legacy"

As she sits and stares into her face
Her thoughts begin to roam
To that not long ago, far off place
And when she brought her home.

She holds her hand and smiles at her
The love, it shows so clear
She longs for the yesterdays
When she held her, oh so near.

But time has traveled past her youth
Her child has grown as well
She's a lovely young woman, yes,
And her heart begins to swell.

She's done the things a mom should do
She's taught her all she knows
Her daughter will carry on for her
Her legacy, through her will show.

Don't cry, my sweet young thing
She thinks as she holds her tight
She squeezes her hand as moms can do
And whispers, "It's going to be alright."

But cry she did, her "little girl"
The tears, they fell like rain
But all the sobs in this world
Just couldn't change a thing.

So she held her hand and smiled at her
Her love showed bright and clear
She too, lingered in the yesterdays
When she held her, oh so near.

I'll cry for you my mother sweet
She thinks as she holds her tight
As squeezes her hand like daughters do
She whispers, "It's going to be alright."

Goodbyes like this are never easy
They linger forever in the heart
But if left unsaid, the unspoken words
Could tear one's heart apart.

So hold the memories so very near
No matter how great or small
You'll find that they become more dear
They'll help you stand straight and tall.

You'll know how to love as well
The ones entrusted to your care
Your mom has taught you of such things
Her strength and love she shared.

You'll pass it forward to yours one day
You'll teach the things you know
And the legacy will continue on
As your family begins to grow.

My "Bucket" List

If, and I say, if I had a "bucket list", it might, most assuredly include the following:

    1. See the Aurora Borealis up close and personal
    2. See the Grand Canyon - first hand - not so "up close and personal", though
    3. Learn Clogging
    4. Learn Ball Room Dancing
    5. Take voice lessons
    6. Learn to swim
    7. Go to the Caribbean
    8. Go to Louisiana
    9. Go to Alaska
    10. Perfect my artistic skills
    11. See the Mississippi River
    12. Visit Niagra Falls
    13. Write a book that made sense
    14. Write Poetry
    15. Daydream about my "Bucket List"!

That's all I have to say about that. For now.

Mama Said There Would be Days Like This . . .

. . . . Mama said.

We won't walk, but . . . .
when crawling gets
tiresome:

Hey, let's just climb! The
stairs, the step stool, and
anything else that's higher
than the floor!

And while we're up there,
let's not waste time just being
"tall", let's seewhat we can
get into!
