It's Time For A Name Change

I almost feel it's long overdue, as a matter of fact.  One of my sandy haired, blue eyed, squirrely girlies is getting a name change.  Truth be known, the name could fit another of my squirrely qirlies ~ only difference is she's a dark haired, blue eyed girly.  Maybe I should number them.  Ha!

Little Miss Reasey Peacey is now, until further notice, renamed Chatty Cathy 2.

"Why?", you ask.
I'll tell you why!

Not because she watched The Beast tie up lures and managed to figure out how to do one herself ~ no, that's not why.  She was, by the way, extremely proud of herself.

No ~ here's why.  Yesterday was a fresh reminder as to why a name change is in order.

3:20PM  Home from school
3:30PM ~ After necessary breaks there comes one of several snacks
3:40PM ~ Homework ~ and selfies while doing said homework
4:00PM ~ I know ~ it didn't take her long to do homework.  Hmm  . . . .  The  "Chatting" begins!

I tell you ~ if our (our being me, Ben and Goldi) ears were made of wax they would have melted off our heads.  I don't believe Miss Reasey Peacey paused for more than 10 breaths of air!  All the while I am hyperventilating just listening to her!  The only topic that I was able to hold on to was her historic information behind the writing of The Wizard of Oz.  Everything else was a blur.  She could easily be diverted down the proverbial bunny trail, either of her own doing or someone else's.  One word from anyone concerning anything led to another whole realm of information!  I must say I was worn out by the time she left!  I think my head may still be reeling from the vocal activity of yesterday afternoon!  And here it is ~ almost time for her to arrive home today.  Glory be.

So, with some minor consideration ~ it really is a "no brainer" ~ Little Miss Reasey Peacey shall be called "Chatty Cathy 2."  That will remain her alternate, new, nickname until such time her vocal energy subsides to mild wisps of conversation.  Not that I expect that to ever happen given her track record. But one can hope, right?  One can hope?

Oh and just for kicks and giggles:

Rease:  "Mom-mom.  Have you ever been to a side kick?"
Me: "Side kick?"  Confused, I know there are weird names for the social media ~ snap chat, FB, Instagram, but side kick was new, very new to me.
Rease:  "Yes, a side kick."
Me:  (here I go ~ I'm going to ask) "Rease, I'm not sure I know what that is, but I've never been to one.  What is it exactly?"
Rease: "You know.  A person who can tell your future."
Me:  ? ? ? ? ? ?  Deer in headlights look going on here! ! I had no words. None.  Nada.  Zilch.
Bob:  Rolling ~ "Rease, that's a 'psychic!"
Rease:  "Yea, yea.  That's it.  Have you, Mom-Mom?"   O. Bliv. I. Ous.

That girl.  God love her.  She's the apple of my eye.  "No, honey. God warns us about them. They are of the devil." I say.  And she nods.

And all is right with the world.  For now at least.

I Will Walk a Mile

On Monday I started a walking regiment with Donna Mae!

I had walked in the past with a friend, but she hurt her foot, life got hectic and our early morning walks came to a stop.  I missed walking (not necessarily at 5:00AM) but more than that I missed our
conversation.  We chatted about our families, how to pray for them and life in general.  And when one walks that early there is no traffic and it is not uncommon for the very early morning sky to still be dark.  And with that darkness came beauty.  The beauty of the stars in a black sky.  The moon shining down on us.  The cool crispness of the air.  Sometimes we would just stop and stare in awe at the amazing canvas God had painted that morning.  And then we'd be off again.  Heading to our destination ~ home.

So you can't imagine how thrilled I was when Donna Mae suggested we "walk together"!  We can chat on our phones all the while getting our heart rates up a bit.  We can start our days ahead of the game.  Why is she smarter than me hadn't I thought of that!!?  Not only that, I get to chat and walk again with someone who is as interested in my life, as I am hers.  We can solve, or at least vent, our own little "world problems" to each other.  We can laugh at them, get ticked off at them, go "hmmm . . . ."  at them, and most importantly, we can pray for them!

Now, with that said, we do need to pick up the pace. We chopped 3-4 minutes off our time this morning, but the fact that The Boy indicated we were "lolly-gagging" makes me want to kick him in the knee cap up my game.  But give us some credit here.  We've not been on the beaten path for some time.  It will take a little warming up to get up to speed!   Plus, plus we have to watch out for the morning traffic!  Schools buses, cars and trucks and tractor trailers blowing by like giant bees!

But, Lord willing and the creek don't rise, we will be on our "A", well, maybe "B" game in no time!

I think I will claim this as my "Walking Verse".  To remind me to TRY to keep my conversation pleasing to the Lord, because I do walk before Him in the land of the living.

Vintage Vibe

I know you know that I love all things glass ~ and vintage (well, not ALL things vintage, but a good amount).  And I love finds, steals, gifts from family and friends and, aaand, a "shout out" from a kindred spirit on Pinterest!

Have you ever wanted something when you saw it?  Ogled over it?  Wanted it?  Couldn't afford it? Never got it, but it was always in the back of your mind?  I would say, "One day. . .. one day, I shall have one".  Well.  A month or so ago I was playing with paper at Dolly's house and before I left she sent Miss Sarah to the attic to fetch something.  Down came the following:

"Would you like this?" she asks.  Say what?  Be still my beating heart!  Why, yes, YES I WOULD!
You could have knocked me over with a feather.  Oh, Dolly!  Thank you so, so much! Insert Happy Dance! Ahhh. . . . chippy love!   I have pondered for a while as to how to use it.
I'm sure the perfect thing will come to mind, but if not, I love 'er the way she is!

Then a couple weekends ago the Lion's Club here in town had a "community yard sale" in their building.  I hemmed and hawed over whether or not to go and finally caved around 11:30AM.  I know from experience that all things good and pretty and valuable are usually gone in a matter of minutes.  So I figured I was just going on a scenic tour of the place.  (I've  never been in their building before.)

But someone, aka: God, was watching out for me and my addiction!  Just look at what I came home with (all for under five buckeroos!):

Not one, but two, serving dishes!  $1.00 each.  They are pretty good sized.  Larger than a relish tray. The pattern is called "Star of David".  Told ya He was watchin' out for me.  Used them on the 4th.
Two little candle holders that I'm going to turn into pin cushion bases.  They are heavy as lead and very, very sparkly. And they were only a quarter each.
And lastly, (Heidi Jane ~ I can't believe it!) a tiny little Banana bowl!  That's right.  A.  Banana. Bowl.  It's a pressed diamond cut kind of pattern.  Cute.  Shiny. And tiny.  For ~ hold on ~ two smakeroos! Two!   Ahhh. . . . . Happy Jig! Happy Jig!

On our Annual 4th of July get together my sister surprised me with these:

Like my old Maxwell House coffee jars, they are vintage and they came from Dad's. (All but the little one in front ~ she picked it up at a thrift store).  The star lid on the little one belongs on one of the bigger jars, but the OCD in me wanted consistency.  (go ahead and laugh) The lids even have the old cardboard seals still in them!  I asked her why she gave them to me and you know what she said?  Because I said I liked them and if she ever got rid of them I would like them.  Now, how's that for sharing?  I'm going to use them on patriotic holidays for sure!  Already have it planned out in my noggin.  I love the scene on them ~ a kitchen counter with a window, a coffee mill, a coffee pot, a jar of coffee, utensils, a loaf of sliced bread and a vase of flowers.  Love it!

And then, today.  I'm on Pinterest and see I'm mentioned in a pin by my Kindred Spirit on the West Coast of this here United States of America.  She thought of little ole me when she pinned this:

It's an old Coke carrier like the one I have, only this gal (http://www.infarrantlycreative.net) put shelves in hers to hold pretties.  She even used black, white and red accents!  Can we say: "Oooooo, ahhhhh"?   It was sweet of Christie to think of me after reading my blog post about my Coke carrier.
Even sweeter that she remembered!

Life is too short not to enjoy things around us. It's too short not to share your love, your heart, your talent, your spirit and the things that connect us to one another.  Every day it seems I'm reminded of those that God has led into my life, be it for the long haul or for short stints.  I'm grateful for each and every one, even if I fail to say it.  I feel sometimes I am a miserable friend.  Sometimes I fall short ~ but mostly I just fall.  Flat.

Forgive me?
I love you guys!

I Know This Day Will Come

I snagged this article from FB.  I changed a few of the words to suit me/mine.  If you read this, please understand, I'M NOT RE-WRITING THE ARTICLE,  just borrowing most of the wording.

Letter From A Mother to Her Daughter Children

"My dear daughter child, the day you see I’m getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through.

If when we talk, I repeat the same thing a thousand times, don’t interrupt to say: “You said the same thing a minute ago”... Just listen, please. Try to remember the times when you were little and I would read the same story night after night until you would fall asleep.

When I don’t want to take a bath, don’t be mad and don’t embarrass me. Remember when I had to run after you making excuses and trying to get you to take a shower when you were just a child?  (I'm not sure this would ever apply to me, but you never know!)

When you see how ignorant I am when it comes to new technology, give me the time to learn and don’t look at me that way... remember, I patiently taught you how to do many things like eating appropriately, getting dressed, combing your hair and dealing with life’s issues every day... the day you see I’m getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through.

If I occasionally lose track of what we’re talking about, give me the time to remember, and if I can’t, don’t be nervous, impatient or arrogant. Just know in your heart that the most important thing for me is to be with you.

And when my old, tired legs don’t let me move as quickly as before, give me your hand the same way that I offered mine to you when you first walked.

When those days come, don’t feel sad... just be with me, and understand me while I get to the end of my life with love.

I’ll cherish and thank you for the gift of time and joy we shared. With a big smile and the huge love I’ve always had for you, I just want to say, I love you... ."
. . . . more than words will ever able to express.

I don't know who originally wrote this, but it fits the bill in so many ways.  I have a hunch I'm not the only Mama out there with these same concerns.

Good Fences = Good Neighbors?

I've heard it said that "good fences make good neighbors".  I'm not so sure I a agree with that quote ~ totally.  I personally think good caring people make good neighbors.  Case in point below:

My next door  neighbor, Tim, gave me a ring on the horn yesterday to tell me he had cut some Camellias before frost gets them and left them at my back door.  I practically hung up on the man I was so excited!  They are simply gorgeous!  He has some of the loveliest flowers in his yard.  The girls and I just drool over them.  Sometimes he gives me cuttings of plants he's growing. Ahhhh, yes. THIS is one of many things that makes a good neighbor. Yep.

Now if you know where I live you may ask:  "Pray tell, why do you have a six foot privacy fence surrounding your back yard then?"  Simple:  I don't want some little tyke eyeballing my pool in the middle of summer and simply be unable to resist the urge to take a dip.  There could be nothing worse than some Mama's baby drowning in said pool (any age is a "Mama's baby").  THIS is when good fences make good neighbors.
